The Cytogenetics Diagnostic Testing Lab offers expert genetic interpretation of constitutional (blood, products of conception; prenatal specimens [chorionic villi; amniotic fluid]) and cancer-related (bone marrow; bone core biopsies; fresh solid tumors; touch preps; formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissues/tumors) specimens, with the goal of providing high quality and timely results to enable clinicians to attain the most accurate diagnosis possible. We use “state of the art” test procedures, including copy number microarray methods, fluorescent in situ hybridization methods, spectral karyotyping methods, and classical banding chromosomal methods.

• Classical chromosomal studies - can be completed on bone marrow; bone core; blood; products of conception; solid tumor; amniotic fluid; chorionic villi.
• Fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) studies - can be completed on fresh or formalin fixed paraffin embedded samples from bone marrow; bone core; blood; buccal smears; products of conception; solid tumor; tumor touch preps; amniotic fluid; chorionic villi.

• Spectral karyotyping studies – can be completed on fresh tissue yielding chromosomes from bone marrow; bone core; blood; products of conception; solid tumor; amniotic fluid; chorionic villi.
