Anatomic Pathology Services

Anatomic Pathology incorporates the following laboratory services: Autopsy, Cytopathology, Neuropathology, [We also offer FNA services to the VCU Medical Center hospitals and clinics and to patients referred from physicians for FNA to our Cytodiagnosis Center].

AUTOPSY.

AUTOPSY

Our Autopsy Service is staffed by faculty mentors who are certified in Anatomic Pathology, two Pathologists’ Assistants, a Pathology Lab Assistant, and one to two rotating Pathology Residents who perform 125 to 150 autopsies a year.

CYTOPATHOLOGY.

CYTOPATHOLOGY

We offer expert cytologic interpretation and consultation of gynecological, non-gynecological and fine needle aspiration (FNA) specimens with the ultimate goal of attaining the most accurate and complete diagnosis possible.

NEUROPATHOLOGY.

NEUROPATHOLOGY

Our department has two Board certified neuropathologists. We maintain a close working relationship with Neurology, Neuro-oncology, and Neurosurgery in clinical service and research efforts. Research specialties include epilepsy and tumors.

SURGICAL PATHOLOGY.

Surgical pathology offers full histology services including immunohistochemistry, molecular diagnostics, and histochemical stains.

RENAL PATHOLOGY.

RENAL PATHOLOGY

Renal Pathology Services offers expert renal biopsy interpretation and consultation to nephrologists and transplant surgeons.

DIGITAL IMAGING.

DIGITAL IMAGING

Digital pathology allows for rapid access to prior case materials and easy access to extensive research materials.
