Mark Mochel, MD, is the Director of Dermatopathology and an associate professor of pathology and dermatology at Virginia Commonwealth University Health System. He is a dermatopathologist and surgical pathologist. He graduated from the University of Virginia School of Medicine and trained in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. After completing his fellowship in Dermatopathology at the University of Pennsylvania under the directorship of Dr. Rosalie Elenitsas, he joined the VCU Department of Pathology to engage in clinical diagnostic work in an academic setting, resident and medical student education, and research in cutaneous pathology.
Dr. Mochel’s research interests include melanocytic neoplasms and inflammatory skin diseases. He has contributed peer-reviewed publications in various journals, including Modern Pathology, Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, Human Pathology, and American Journal of Clinical Pathology. He is an Assistant Editor of Dermatologic Surgery and serves on the Editorial Boards of the Journal of Cutaneous Pathology and Pediatric Dermatology.
