Massey Cancer Biology Program Co-Leader
Associate Director for Basic Science, Global Oncology Program, Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center

Paula D. Bos, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology and Cancer Biology Program Co-Leader at the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center (MCC), where she also serves as Assistant Director for Basic Science for the Global Oncology Program. She holds a Ms. in Genetics from the National University of Misiones, Argentina where she performed molecular epidemiological studies of human papillomavirus infection and cervical cancer in guarani Indian and white women from the region. She obtained her PhD from Weill Cornell Medical College, where she delineated tissue-specific metastasis biology under the guidance of Dr Joan Massague. She did postdoctoral training in cancer immunology in Dr Sasha Rudensky’s lab at Sloan-Kettering Institute. Her research group investigates tumor microenvironmental (TME) interactions that drive breast cancer progression and tissue-specific metastasis, in particular the brain. Her work utilizes genetic models to delineate tissue-specific function of regulatory T cells and other stromal cells, in primary and secondary organ tumor microenvironments with the long-term goal of providing novel TME targets for therapeutic intervention. She currently serves in the Board of the Metastasis Research Society, the AACR (American Association of Cancer Research) Tumor Microenvironment Steering Committee, and is a permanent member of the Tumor Immune Regulation study section at the NIH, and the Metastasis and Microenvironment Study Section at the American Cancer Society.

Research Interests: Tumor Microenvironment, Tissue Tropism, Regulatory T cells, Metastatic Dissemination, Breast Cancer.
