Mark Mochel, MD, is Associate Professor of Pathology and Dermatology and Director of Dermatopathology. He is a dermatopathologist and surgical pathologist. Dr. Mochel graduated from the University of Virginia School of Medicine and trained in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. After completing his fellowship in Dermatopathology at the University of Pennsylvania under the directorship of Dr. Rosalie Elenitsas, he joined the VCU Department of Pathology to engage in clinical diagnostic work in an academic setting, resident and medical student education, and research in cutaneous pathology.

Dr. Mochel’s research interests include melanocytic neoplasms and inflammatory skin diseases. He has contributed peer-reviewed publications in various journals, including Modern Pathology, Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, Human Pathology, and American Journal of Clinical Pathology. He also serves on the Editorial Boards of the Journal of Cutaneous Pathology, Dermatologic Surgery, and Pediatric Dermatology.
