Dr. Dmitry Lyalin is a board-certified clinical laboratory geneticist, and earned his PhD in Genetics from Texas A&M University. Following his PhD, he worked as a post-doctoral scientist in the NCI-supported preclinical program at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, OH, where he evaluated therapeutic agents against childhood solid tumors and leukemias. He then, completed a 3-year American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG) fellowship at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, MO.
Dr. Lyalin is board-certified in Clinical Cytogenetics and Clinical Molecular Genetics and Genomics. After completing the fellowship program, he joined the Sanford Imagenetics Initiative, and helped launch the Sanford Precision screening program. After Sanford, he served as a co-director of the Medical Genetics laboratory at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
Dr. Lyalin joined the VCU Department of Pathology in July 2023 as the Associate Director of the Cytogenetics and Molecular Diagnostics laboratories. His clinical, and research interests include genetic testing for inherited and acquired conditions and the implementation of precision medicine in population health.
