Dr. Melissa Contos, MD, has retired from her role as Professor of Pathology at Virginia Commonwealth University but will continue part time in her clinical duties. She attended The College of William and Mary where she was awarded a BS in biology. She subsequently received her MD from the Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University and went on to complete her Anatomic and Clinical Pathology residency training at MCV/VCU as well. Her clinical interests are in the areas of gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary.
Dr. Contos' research was focused on working with the division of hepatology on multidisciplinary grants including hepatitis C, primary biliary cirrhosis and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis.
Dr. Contos was an active member of the teaching faculty in the VCU School of Medicine, having served as co- course director of the second year course in gastroenterology. She has received several teaching awards including best teacher.
