Prabakaran Paulraj, PhD, joined the VCU Department of Pathology in January 2019, serving as the Associate Director of Cytogenetics and Assistant Director of Molecular Diagnostics. Dr. Paulraj has completed his PhD in Life sciences from Gujarat University, India and subsequently specialized in diagnostic human genetics in various settings including university hospital laboratories and national reference laboratories. Dr. Paulraj completed his American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Laboratory Genetics and Genomics which includes Cytogenetics, Genomics and Molecular genetics, from the University of Utah and ARUP Laboratories.
Dr. Paulraj’s clinical and research interests include characterization of constitutional and acquired genetic anomalies using genomic techniques; evaluation of dosage sensitivity of copy number variants for chromosomal regions and genes of interest; and clinical grade next-generation sequencing assays for inherited and acquired conditions.
