Ema Dragoescu, MD is an associate professor of pathology at Virginia Commonwealth University. She is currently the Program Director for the Surgical Pathology Fellowship Program. Dr. Dragoescu received her Medical Doctor degree from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Carol Davila in Bucharest. She completed her Anatomic and Clinical Pathology residency training at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY followed by fellowship training in Surgical Pathology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN and Cytopathology at VCU.
Dr. Dragoescu’s clinical expertise focuses on Bone and Soft Tissue pathology, Gynecologic and Genitourinary pathology, and Cytopathology. She has published in peer-reviewed journals, presented at national and regional meetings, including at the resident review mini-course sponsored by the American Society for Clinical Pathology five years in a row, and authored a few book chapters. Dr. Dragoescu is also an active teacher in the VCU School of Medicine, and enjoys teaching pathology residents and fellows as well as trainees from other clinical departments. She has graduated from the Teaching in Medical Education (TiME) program through the VCU School of Education. Dr. Dragoescu has received the Saul Kay teaching award in 2010 and was voted Top Doctor by the Richmond Magazine in 2013 and 2015.
